~ Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~

My husband is in the wine and liquor industry and so he gets some great perks, like VIP tickets to an annual polo match at Liberty State Park. We went last year too, but this year we were included in the “trade” section, which meant free drinks and food. I work for a nonprofit so, needless to say, the perks of our jobs are vastly different. It was a beautiful day and the park has a beautiful view of the New York City skyline. We took a friend this year and the three of us had a great time, enjoying the weather and the event. Plus, horses!

This is from dinner last night. We’ve had our friends Kelly and Frank, plus their adorable little baby, Willow, staying with us for a few days while they wait to close on their house. We’re so happy to be able to welcome them into our house, and we can’t wait to see their new place! Chad’s also mom came down for a visit too, so we had five (plus the baby) for dinner. I cut the flowers from the rhododendron and mountain laurel in our yard and Chad cooked barbequed chicken with the family recipe. We finished the night with s’mores in our fireplace.

I saw this meme on Facebook last night and I thought the girl on the bottom left looked a lot like me (especially on my iPhone screen. There’s less of a resemblance now that I see the picture in a bigger size). I said to my husband, “I’ve always wondered what I would look like if I were laughing and breastfeeding. Now I know!”

As I said, my husband is in the wine and liquor industry, so he informed us that this week is #NegroniWeek. A negroni is a mixed drink from using the ingredients you see below. You can learn more about the drink from his blog. Chad has his own wine education company, so incorporating wine and spirits into our lives is a regular occurrence, both because we enjoy it and because it’s important for his job. (Again, very different perks than my nonprofit job!)
He was cooking dinner that night for us and our house guests, so he gave me the instructions (equal parts of each) and I made us a little pitcher to enjoy as a pre-dinner cocktail.
I’m linking up with Like Mother, Like Daughter for {pretty, happy, funny, real}.
Join the fun and share your week!
Your home is an oasis. You and Chad have fostered a welcoming, calm, and enjoyable environment. I only hope Frank and I will create that space in our home. Thank you for letting us share life with you for a couple of weeks. It was nice to see friends every night and live life together. We need to have you over soon. If you’d like to come over on a Tuesday or Thursday evening while Frank is away, let me know. (We also need to have you over when Frank is home.)
